THE OUTDOOR SHRINE

The outdoor shrine is made of faceted glass with symbols embedded. The statue of St. Dymphna, made of carrara marble, stands in the center against the brightly colored glass. Beneath the statue are candles that burn 365 days a years. The candles are lighted in petition and thanksgiving. Each candle burns for six to seven days and the recommended offering is $3.00.

The outdoor shrine building was built in the late 1950s and was recently renovated.

THE CHAPEL

The beautiful chapel in honor of St. Dymphna was dedicated on May 15, 1938. This was the first shrine dedicated in her honor in the United States.

The beautiful chapel, nestled on the grounds of the Heartland Behavioral Healthcare Center, is designed with beautifully detailed stained glass windows depicting the Miracles of Our Lord among the infirm. There are various statues of St. Dymphna as well as a lovely jeweled reliquary that encases an actual bone chip of St. Dymphna.

THE OFFICES AND SMALL GIFT SHOP

The office at the Shrine is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. We also have a small gift shop offering religious items for sale.

When visiting the Shrine, you will be greeted by our helpful staff. Mary is here everyday while Beth and Beverly are part time.

Office Inside

Shrine Offices Here at the office we help answer the thousands of letters we receive every year. People from all over the world write to tell us of St. Dymphna's intercession in their lives and the lives of their loved ones.

THE GROUNDS

The grounds around the Shrine are very peaceful and serene. You will often see deer walking across the fields. Father Herttna rides his bicycle every day, weather permitting, where he encounters groundhogs, geese and squirrels.
